Look at each table

Building MDF doors? Start with the Lite, or the LitePlus if you sand all day. The cyclone tables are for shops that also make heavy, coarse dust.

Best for MDF doors

Lite

Cabinet shops finish-sanding MDF doors and panels (120–320 grit, primer scuffing).

  • Top72″ × 36″, 32 cells
  • Power120 V, 9 A blower (20 A circuit)
  • Whole top96–105 fpm
  • Best zone135–147 fpm over 36″ × 36″
  • Footprint72″ × 36″ × 36″ H

Strengths

  • The whole 72″ × 36″ top at about 100 fpm, even with four doors on risers.
  • Lowest cost: one 120 V circuit and a quiet furnace blower.
  • Smallest footprint: no tower, ducting or drum.

Trade-offs

  • No cyclone: the filters take all the dust; airflow drops about 8% before service.
  • Prefilters are a running cost, more so with primer.
  • Not for coarse grits or heavy stock removal.

Door production

LitePlus

Door shops finish-sanding MDF every day that want the filters to stay put and the finest dust caught.

  • Top72″ × 36″, 32 cells
  • Power240 V, 3 HP + shop air
  • Whole top94–104 fpm (118–121 Chicago)
  • Best zone176–194 fpm over 36″ × 36″
  • Footprint98″ × 36″, 56″ tower
  • Plan set33 pages + CNC

Strengths

  • Whole top at about 100 fpm, and about 120 with the Chicago blower.
  • Press CLEAN at the end of the day: the cartridges stay in and last years.
  • MERV 15 nanofiber media, plus a dust drawer instead of dusty filter changes.

Trade-offs

  • Costs three to four times as much as the Lite to build.
  • Needs 240 V and shop air that holds 90 psi.
  • 98″ long with a 56″ tower, and about 630 lb.

Small shops

Compact

Smaller shops sanding solid-wood parts through coarse and fine grits, often with a 120 V collector already on hand.

  • Top54″ × 36″, 24 cells
  • Power120 V, 12–16 A collector
  • Whole top45–49 fpm
  • Best zone122–131 fpm over 18″ × 36″
  • Footprint88″ × 36″, 55″ tower
  • Plan set30 pages + CNC

Strengths

  • Cyclone drops chips and coarse dust into a drum, so airflow stays steady between filter services.
  • A 54″ top and 88″ overall length fit tighter shops.
  • Runs on a common 120 V collector, or one you already own.

Trade-offs

  • Only an 18″ × 36″ zone reaches 100+ fpm; the whole top gets under 50 fpm.
  • The 55″ cyclone tower adds height and length.
  • Costs more to build than the Lite and moves about a third of the air.

Mixed work

Standard

General woodshops with mixed work: solid wood, coarse grits and long parts, on 120 V.

Strengths

  • A 72″ top with column zoning handles long parts.
  • Cyclone and drum take the heavy dust; the filters last.
  • Reuses a 120 V collector you already own, which cuts the cost a lot.

Trade-offs

  • Only an 18″ × 36″ zone reaches 100+ fpm; the whole top gets 34–37 fpm.
  • Needs blanking mats for most jobs.
  • 106″ long with the tower, and about 590 lb.

Production

Pro 240 V

Production shops with 240 V doing heavy stock removal and large panels all day.

  • Top72″ × 36″, 32 cells

Strengths

  • A 36″ × 36″ zone at 107–127 fpm, and 136–161 fpm over 27″ × 36″.
  • The XL cyclone handles heavy dust loads for hours.
  • Built for production duty, with headroom for a 5 HP blower.

Trade-offs

  • Needs a 240 V circuit, and costs more than the 120 V tables.
  • 70″ tower, 107″ long, about 690 lb.
  • The whole top still gets only 56–67 fpm.
